By believing in young people and empowering them to be the best they can, Optimist volunteers continually make this world a better place to live. There are 114,000 individual members who belong to 3,500 autonomous clubs. Optimists conduct 65,000 service projects each year, serving six million young people. Optimists also spend $78 million on their communities annually.

2024 Modern Optimist Club Activities

  • The Club is planning to work with Kettering STEAM in designing a large kid friendly floor map of the City of Kettering. This map will be used in a Project Based Learning experience titled STEAM City: Mapping Out Your Community. Third grade students will learn about the history of Kettering, the Kettering Government, mapping skills, coding, etc.
  • We are also in the process of seeking approval for the members to go to the schools and paint the windows of these classrooms with murals depicting famous people, places, and events from Kettering.
  • The Modern Optimist Club members are currently working on a shirt design that they can wear while participating in club activities.

Dec. 14, 2021

Last week, our student Optimist Club led the effort in raising roughly $400 in donations towards clothing, toys, art supplies, and other gift items for four students from John F Kennedy Elementary School here in Kettering.

Thank you to our club members, students, faculty, and staff for helping spread some holiday cheer in our community this season!

The Modern Optimists includes 25+ students, staff, and faculty. We are  Optimist Club #24534 Chartered - September 13, 2021 and part of Ohio Optimist District #24 -  We meet at the The Modern College of Design in Kettering, Ohio.

Our club is focused on getting involved both on our campus and out in the surrounding areas. This past fall, we worked with the Foodbank of Dayton, collected donations for several food drives, provided holiday gifts for four students at JFK Elementary, and created holiday-themed window displays for 8 businesses in downtown Dayton. Our students and staff have clocked over 250 volunteer hours during the fall semester alone. We hope to surpass those total hours in the current semester.
